What is meant by sap. What are uses of sap?

SAP is a windows based computer programming system used for data collection. the company i work for previously used PRMS and BOSS and recently replaced both with SAP. Took 3 1/2 years to develop the application to suit our business and another 1 year to work out the 'bugs' but is much easier to work with and has had great results.
